Generally a more economical gate automation system than the underground system, Hydraulic pistons or Electro-mechanical rams are mounted on the back of each gate leaf. This form of automation is particularly popular on wooden five bar farm type gates, although it is equally suited to most timber and wrought iron gate designs.

Designed to be concealed underground, below the gate hinge, these openers are popular on decorative wrought iron gates, being virtually invisible. These motors are fitted below ground level with the operator drive shaft aligned with the axis of the gate hinge. In order to attain this alignment the hinge centre must be clear of the face of the gate post.

Introduced as an economical and adaptable gate automation solution and designed to overcome most installation problems which previously prevented automation of gates, particularly those with large gate posts. Electro-mechanical motors fitted with an articulated arm allow the flexible positioning of the motor unit away from the gate hinges.
